High in Trial

It’s true - Mishka won High in Trial this past weekend. She was positively amazing - I could not have asked for better. Handler errors actually kept her from two Qs she would have had otherwise. Getting used to TDAA is proving interesting since I have much more experience and knowledge of UKC. But we placed first quite a few times in class and had some pretty tough competition - the fastest dogs there were actually in our class and beat us some of the time. (Mostly because Mishka would decide to pause midway through her run, once to scratch herself, another time to watch my mom walking Storm outside the ring. Silly dog.)

Anyways, so there are two different types of runs - games and standard runs. Standard is more difficult to qualify in than games, and Mishka got 5/5 games Qs (so she earned her Games I title and is one qualifying run away from her Games II title). But only 1/4 in Standard. Twice due to handler error - which I was perturbed at myself about. One run she just went bonkers, but hey, I’ll take 8/9 happily. :)

Storm also did really well and took second place (behind Mishka, usually) most of the time. She has her Games I title now and is one Q away from her standard title (TBAD).

Now just have to teach Storm to weave before the next trial in March so she will be prepared for the intermediate class. (There are no weave poles in basic.) We also have UKC at the end of March and I am thinking about going to NADAC’s next trial.

Lots of fun in the future. I may post a picture of Mishka’s High in Trial later but I am busy with finals this week and next.

Agility 12/1

Went in about 1:30 to start working with Mishka on her weaves. She likes to do them on my left but not on my right. This is probably because, when a dog enters the weave poles, they have to enter with their left shoulder toward the pole. It throws her off when I’m on the right side. But she is getting much better.

Then agility class at 7:00; Mishka is really excelling. We were practicing on send, call, and out. Send is when your dog goes out ahead of you to complete one or more obstacles. Call is when you go out ahead of your dog and call them through one or more obstacles. For out, you are basically running parallel with your dog but they move away from you to complete an obstacle. (Hopefully this explanation makes some sense.) She did well on everything but need a little work on sending.

Storm and Mishka both participated in the run thru, which was a TDAA course since that is what we will be doing this weekend. Both of them did beautifully. Wish us luck for this weekend. They have a total of eight runs. Hoping to come home with a new title or two! :)

Pascha shipped off to her new home today.

Yuno, or Nika as her new family will be calling her, will be shipping out on Monday.

It will be a little lonely here. :( But at least Fang will be staying with us.

Preparation for the TDAA Trial

Training went well on Saturday in preparing for the TDAA trial. Mishka is doing really well on the weave poles but we need to work on her not sniffing the floor. :( Silly dog. She is a speed demon but an easily distracted one. Storm and my mom did really well together so I look forward to competing against them. Will let you know the results - hopefully all goes well, but with AKK, you never know.

rise-from-my-ashes asked: where are you located? and what is your pricing? CONGRATS ON THE PUPPIES!!!

Thank you! We are located near OKC, in Oklahoma. If you would like to make an inquiry you can send an email to jlorton2@hotmail.com, I really prefer not to discuss specific pricing on public websites. (But I will say most AKK range from 1600-2300.) Two of the three are already reserved. Yuno is the only one available and may be reserved in the next twenty-four hours; we already have someone interested. But they may back out. We can always help direct you to another breeder who has puppies. :)

My apologies for the late reply - was busy for Thanksgiving weekend.

Agility 11/18

Mishka is working on jumping techniques in her class. I am learning how to accomplish better front and rear crosses. Her weaving technique is amazing, she is really whipping through the weaves now. She doesn’t even really need the channels anymore. Right now she can do 6 weaves, no problem. 12 weaves pushes the envelop, however, so we’ll have to continue working on that.

Storm is starting the channels now and is doing a good job moving through them on command. My mom is her handler, by the way. The two of them participated in the run through last night and did wonderful. Storm hasn’t been in agility for a while, especially since she has been pregnant and had puppies.

Nova is starting to learn how to zoom through the tunnel.

Just my regular progress report! :)
