High in Trial
It’s true - Mishka won High in Trial this past weekend. She was positively amazing - I could not have asked for better. Handler errors actually kept her from two Qs she would have had otherwise. Getting used to TDAA is proving interesting since I have much more experience and knowledge of UKC. But we placed first quite a few times in class and had some pretty tough competition - the fastest...

Agility 12/1
Went in about 1:30 to start working with Mishka on her weaves. She likes to do them on my left but not on my right. This is probably because, when a dog enters the weave poles, they have to enter with their left shoulder toward the pole. It throws her off when I’m on the right side. But she is getting much better.
Then agility class at 7:00; Mishka is really excelling. We were practicing on...
Pascha shipped off to her new home today.
Yuno, or Nika as her new family will be calling her, will be shipping out on Monday.
It will be a little lonely here. :( But at least Fang will be staying with us.

Will try to get some more puppy pictures up later.
I have school today and have been busy trying to wrap up the semester. Hopefully when I get home I can share some puppy pictures. Have some really cute ones! :)

Preparation for the TDAA Trial
Training went well on Saturday in preparing for the TDAA trial. Mishka is doing really well on the weave poles but we need to work on her not sniffing the floor. :( Silly dog. She is a speed demon but an easily distracted one. Storm and my mom did really well together so I look forward to competing against them. Will let you know the results - hopefully all goes well, but with AKK, you never know.
rise-from-my-ashes asked: where are you located? and what is your pricing? CONGRATS ON THE PUPPIES!!!

Agility 11/18
Mishka is working on jumping techniques in her class. I am learning how to accomplish better front and rear crosses. Her weaving technique is amazing, she is really whipping through the weaves now. She doesn’t even really need the channels anymore. Right now she can do 6 weaves, no problem. 12 weaves pushes the envelop, however, so we’ll have to continue working on that.
Storm is...

Agility 11/10
I am about ready to collapse tonight.
We spent most of the day at the academy (place where we do our agility training). Mishka is thoroughly exhausted. We worked again on the weaves and she is such a smart little girl that she is really zooming through them but not entirely ready to move past the channels although she can do it. She is just inconsistent about it.
Started up an intermediate...
jenstyle asked: Yes, his name is Knightro, after my college mascot! We have been waiting for quite some time now, we're incredibly anxious! He is coming from an in-state breeder, Shannon from southern cross akk. She is absolutely wonderful :)
jenstyle asked: Yes, that's him! Thank you so much, I will definitely be posting tons of pictures :). I am beyond excited. He's 1 of 3 boys in his litter, definitely some male dominance lol

Lightning, now Pascha
Lightning has been reserved by a family in Florida now. She will henceforth be known as Pascha. :) Not sure if any of those that follow live in Florida, but if so, there will be a blue-eyed munchkin heading your way in about three weeks.
Meanwhile, agility is tomorrow. They have an intermediate class starting up and I think I will join up. They will be working on front and rear cross, as well as...

Agility 11/3
So last night we worked again on the channel weaves. Mishka is really picking up the weave poles quickly. Will probably require another month’s worth of training before I can rely upon her to be consistent, but she was weaving regular poles last night (albeit slowly).
I got her TDAA number today (registration number) as well as confirmation for the trial she is entered into in December....

UAGI Title!
Well, it is official. Mishka earned her first agility title in UKC. :) She had two more qualifying runs this morning. She’s now UAGI ‘PR’ Alasco’s Miss Mikka Mischief. Ah!! So exciting! Now I’m anxious for the next trial in December (which is Teacup Dog Agility, for small dogs, indicative in the name ‘Teacup’).

2 Qualifying Runs, 1st Place in Both & 1 Perfect...
Mishka qualified during BOTH trials today (earning 1st place in both, as the only dog in her division). One was a perfect score and she faulted on the other. Nonetheless, it was an AMAZING and successful day. If she qualifies one more time tomorrow (two more trials on Sunday) she will earn her UAGI title.
Woohoo!

Two Weeks Away
October 29th and 30th will be the UKC trial in Norman, Oklahoma. So exciting! Hopefully we do well but I don’t have any grand delusions. She is a northern breed and it is our first. :) Hoping for just one qualifying run. I already sent her forms last weekend and got the confirmation email. Just so psyched.
Her runs went really well on Thursday, too. Did a call, out, and a send. (I had to...

Tearing it up
Mishka was wicked last night in agility. I swear she is my miniature border collie because she just rips it out there in the ring. :) Can’t wait for the end of the month when we go to our first trial. We have been running advanced and intermediate, but we are still trialing as beginner because we have not actually started trialing. On an account of Mishka being a northern breed, I fully...

Phew
Puppies are only three days old. One is reserved, one is pending eval, and I think I may have someone interested in the other (Lightning, the one with the split which I will be placing as a pet for sure). So thankful that the sire’s owner (also the dam’s breeder) has been so supportive. :)
I will post pictures when they get a little older. Still not much to see!
gurlnexttdoor asked: CONGRATULATIONS! the lil girls are so cute (:

Puppies!
Storm was panting hard late last night, got up in the middle of the night to check on her and she was whining and spinning around. Took about two hours for her to give birth to three girls. One has a pretty ideal mask, one has a slight split, and another has a more prominent split. (Splits are less desirable per the breed standard - I’m really hoping I can keep one from this litter but...

Agility 9/29
Went to agility tonight. Got a compliment from a handler who runs advanced, said a did I really good job handling Mishka. :) She was pretty solid tonight compared to the last couple weeks. Hopefully we can keep this going. Need to print off entry forms and get the sent in this weekend for the October trial.
Been taking Storm’s temperature all week. Fluctuating a little but hasn’t...
gurlnexttdoor asked: what do you mean by first due date lol

One Week
Until the first due date. Will start taking Storm’s temperature so we will know when she is getting ready to go into labor. Hoping for a smooth delivery.

Storm's Babies
Got to feel them kicking tonight. :) Little less than two weeks now until her first due date. (Though I am expecting the 4-6th of October, dogs have this uncanny way of doing things the way they want to do it, not the way that is convenient for you.) So excited!

AKK Ownership
“How much are they?” Always the question I seem to get when taking the babies to the pet store. The general answer has always been, “Around $2000.” It really depends on the breeder you go to; cheaper does not always mean better. Often times, it does not. But more expensive doesn’t necessarily mean better quality either. I cannot stress enough that a person should...

Agility 9/15
Went to the run thrus last night. Mishka was being totally spastic. In part because there were a couple of kids running around like crazy - not the ideal environment for her since she has bad experiences with children. :( Plus there was a lady who wasn’t paying attention to her dog and it came up right behind Mishka. Hopefully on that front, it will be better next week.
Nova went for some...

Storm is Pregnant
Tentatively announcing this, as she is starting to get big. Through palpation, the best guess is that she has 2-3, but that is an average litter size, anyways. She is due the first week of October. I’ll take some pictures of Storm here in the next week or two when you can see her stomach a little better.
And just for information’s sake, she is fully health tested, as is the sire. Once...

Agility
Went to our run through tonight and took Nova for some socialization. She did very good and did not shy away from people, even took treats from strangers and allowed them to hold her. Such a good little girl.
Mishka was doing great, has to work on obstacle discrimination some (mostly my fault for the WRONG commands). And she was lagging behind today. Normally she is a speed demon I have to rein...

Nova is home!
Will try to get some pictures in the morning. Urk, it is so late. Spent most of the evening trying to get her adjusted and still have some homework to finish before my class tomorrow. I did get some video but youtube is reluctant to cooperate, for whatever reason. I’ll see if I can get something up before bed time, no guarantees.
I will say this, she is an active little booger. Shooting...

The Decorated Rabbit: Breeders Vs. Shelter Dogs →
decoratedrabbit:
My original update: For the love of god, adopt your pet! don’t buy! especially from breeders. please, please, please?
Her response: Can I ask what’s wrong with breeders? I’d say, don’t buy from pet stores, as their dogs are usually from puppy mills. At least (good) breeders take very good care…
Never buy from pet stores. Never buy from backyard breeders. That should be...
